The average cost of a basic funeral is around £4,000 and statistics show that around a fifth of all UK funerals are paid for in advance with a funeral plan. Plans typically allow anyone to pay for and plan the arrangements of their or someone elses funeral, so when they die their family will have little financial or organisational responsibilty.
