Why choose an electric scooter?
The New Way to Travel
With many people returning to work, a big concern is the use of public transport. Whether your usual mode of transport is on the train, bus or tube there is no way of avoiding being in close proximity to other people. With the current pandemic, the risk of catching coronavirus is a worry and as a result many of us are looking at alternative ways to commute to work. If you don’t own a car, and buying one is out of your budget, renting an electric scooter is a great way to get around and could be the answer.
As from 4th July, it became legal to ride a scooter on roads, cycle paths and cycle lanes, but only if it's part of a hire scheme. If you own an electric scooter yourself, it is still illegal to ride it anywhere except private land, with permission from the owner of the land.
Why choose an electric scooter?
You can travel at a speed of up to 15.5mph, there's no need to pay for petrol as an electric scooter is charged with electricity and you won't have to pay parking fees which makes them extremely economical to run.
How much do they cost to rent?
The cost of rental can vary but is usually around £1 to unlock them and then about 25 pence per minute thereafter. Rather than a large outlay to buy your own scooter, this can prove to be a cost-effective option.
Do you need a licence?
To hire an electric scooter, you must be 16 years old and those without a license can apply for a provisional license.
For safety, it is a good idea when riding an electric scooter to invest in a helmet and reflective clothing so you can easily be seen, and wherever possible use a bike lane.
